Meet the Team

Meet Dr. Diell Agolli, the owner and founder of DEA Tours. In 1982, Diell, a student of medicine, was hungry for new life experiences and thirsty for contact with new people, had a chance to become part of the team of one of the greatest Yugoslav tour operators, offering him a chance to improve his foreign language skills and to travel. During this time, he witnessed the darker side of life while he was studying medicine (seeing human suffering) but also saw the lighter aspects of life while working in tourism (joy in travel and leisure). Today, people are not sure what is his hobby and what is his profession: surgery or tourism?

In 1982, Diell met two fantastic friends- Biljana and Dzino, who were also working in tourism at the time, which was the beginning of a tight friendship and also the backbone for establishing DEA Tours 23 years later, a company that gracefully combines the enthusiasm of a doctor and the experience of two professionals who have always worked in tourism. The company was launched in 2005, when Dr. Diell followed through with the dreams of his youth, using his national and international personal and professional experience and contacts to promote his unique birth town of Ohrid. His motive was to rebrand Ohrid as a touristic destination, because although it was a UNESCO site, it had fallen off the touristic map after the war.

From the beginning, we started completely new tourism programs in our country, introducing excursions that involved the local people of the villages, offering local cuisine, and trying to promote the excellent eco-life of Macedonia. Today, we offer tour programs that cover the entire territory of the Republic of Macedonia, including the most attractive natural and historical sites of the country whether on a daily tour basis or longer trips. Also, we promote the regional beauties and historical sites in the neighbouring countries, especially in Albania and the Lake Prespa region bordering Macedonia and Greece.

We also have taken actions to promote and preserve our local cultural heritage and have established the first school for Byzantine painting to help promote the traditional arts and aim to involve any segment of local life into our tourism products to support local businesses. Not forgetting the pristine environment (labelled one of the seven rarest natural sanctuaries of the world by National Geographic) we are also involved in a campaign to protect the endangered endemic species in Lake Ohrid, especially the trout. With visits to our national parks of Galicica and Prespa, we introduce travellers to 11 specific endemic plants with the goal in the future to save them.

Today, we are a respectable incoming agency in Macedonia and finally in WHL we found the most powerful weapon to promote not only accommodation but also tours, excursions and local development! We also offer accommodation in our Villa DEA, a frontier in Macedonia- offering new trends in using green technologies, solar energy, eco-friendly products, and more.
